The Return of a Local Favorite
The Chippewa County Historical Society has high hopes to bring back a local tradition this spring. Last year, the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted The Past Passed Here, the society’s popular fur-trade and logging-era reenactment. It’s back on the calendar for the public, May 6-9, at Marshall Park in Chippewa Falls.
Of course, this year there is still uncertainty caused by the pandemic, but we will follow CDC and Chippewa County Health Department safety guidelines with our plan to hold the French fur trade and lumbering era re-enactments.
Over the years, more than 9,000 fourth grade students studying Wisconsin history have spent a day in camp. They explored dozens of French fur trade camps and learned about the various jobs lumberjacks did while harvesting huge white pine forests. Students met knowledgeable re-enactors, played hands-on games, enjoyed period food and shopped for trader’s wares while experiencing living Chippewa County history.
