to Honor Two-year-old Boy Battling Cancer
Boyceville, Wis. (Feb 22, 2024) - The American Red Cross, is partnering with the family of
Kasen Iverson, a two-year-old boy battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, to host a community
blood drive in his honor. The event is set to take place on Feb. 27 from noon to 6 p.m. at Trinity
Lutheran Church 1039 Nordveien Dr., in Boyceville.
Kasen was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2023.Ever since his diagnosis, Kasen has
been in and out of the hospital frequently for chemotherapy treatments and has received several
blood transfusions.
“Kasen’s situation has inspired me not only to donate blood, but to also encourage others to
give blood as well,” said Lonna Borgert, Kasen’s great-grandmother.
“I am so grateful that there was donor blood and platelets for my great-grandson Kasen when
he needed them so badly in his fight against leukemia, said Borgert. “When I think of the Red
Cross as a whole, I think about them always being there in some capacity in emergencies. They
are a godsend.”
For patients like Kasen, having blood donations available is truly the key to his survival. Like so
many other critical patients, Kasen could not have survived these last months without blood
donations. The Iverson family is hopeful that Kasen will make full and speedy recovery.
The American Red Cross urges donors to give blood or platelets now to continue to strengthen
the national blood supply this month. People of all blood types – especially those with type O
blood – are critical to ensuring hospitals can meet the daily demand for lifesaving transfusions
this winter.
Generous blood donors are vital to ensuring those in need of transfusions have access to
critical care. As a thank-you, all who come to give Feb. 1-29, 2024, will receive a $20
Amazon.com Gift Card by email. Visit RedCrossBlood.org/Heart for details.
