Virtual Program: Discover Your Winter Garden

  • WWIB Radio 2396 Hallie Road Chippewa Falls, WI, 54729 United States (map)

The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire presents “The Unsung Season: Gardens in Winter” on Saturday, March 13 from 10–11:30 a.m. as a live virtual program. Wisconsin winters can seem like they’ll never end, especially to gardeners. Join host Karen Bussolini and learn how to plant for winter as a transition between fall and spring. Registration required. Register online at www.ecpubliclibrary.info/events.

“Form, line, color, texture, plays of light and shadow, movement, sound, birds, and the surprises you’ll find are wonderful incentives to drag yourself out of your comfy chair and go outdoors,” says Bussolini. “Big structures carry the garden when details are buried under snow, evergreens provide color and form, seedheads and pods lend punctuation and texture, while many herbaceous plants persist well into winter.”

Karen Bussolini has been a gardener all her life. She trained as a painter and was an architectural photographer before specializing in garden photography, writing, speaking, and eco-friendly garden coaching and design. She is a Northeast Organic Farmers Association (NOFA) Accredited Organic Land Care Professional. Her garden has been featured in many publications, including Anne Raver’s feature, “A Hillside of Feisty Beauties” in The New York Times.

This program is co-sponsored by the Eau Claire Garden Club, which strives to educate members in all phases of gardening and to promote the enjoyment of gardening among their members and in the community.
